Fly Rod Cellars is an occasional project of Assistant Winemaker Troy Mandeville and Cellarmaster John Richardson. Each vintage features a different red and rose' wines. Our Reserve Salmonfly Syrah is 100% Red Mountain Syrah from famed Ciel du Cheval Vineyard. Aged in 33% new French oak, this Syrah is dense, smoky and full of black fruit and herbs.
Our Pink Pollywog Rose’ is 100% Mourvedre from Weinbau Vineyard. This Rosé features a brilliant copper-pink color and lovely aromas of strawberries, Rainier cherries, red currants, tangerine, pink rose petals, lavender and pink incense. The flavors are vivid and nicely extracted, with notes of grape skins, cherry stones and Wahluke Slope dusty minerals. The vivacity continues on the back with sensations of fraise and cerise liqueurs and tangerine peel, followed by a pleasingly juicy dry finish. Great for sipping on the patio or with brunch.
Drizzle is a Pinot Gris produced in an off-dry style (1.6% residual sugar). Drizzle has aromas of Bosc pear, peach and Crenshaw melon, with scents of lilac, honeysuckle, anise, and white incense. The white fruit flavors are fresh and vibrant, accented by notes of crunchy pear skin, melon rind and Red Mountain calcareous minerals. On the back, a burst of grapefruit juice enlivens the faintly honeyed finish. Enjoy slightly chilled with Asian food, sushi, roasted chicken, turkey, cheese and crackers or with summer sun and great company.
Drizzle is a Pinot Gris produced in an off-dry style (1.5% residual sugar). From Red Mountain's Ciel du Cheval vineyard, this vintage of Drizzle is light greyish gold colored,with intriguing aromas of Bosc pear, Granny apple, honeydew melon, kiwi, Key lime, apple blossoms, lemongrass and wet stone. The flavors, as well, are striking, with notes of grape and pear skins, celery stick and saline minerals. The back picks up Calvados and pêche liqueurs and lime zest, followed by a slightly honeyed finish that is counterpointed by vivid fruit acids.
Enjoy slightly chilled with Asian food, sushi, roasted chicken, turkey, cheese and crackers or with summer sun and great company.
Here in the Convergence Zone, we love our Sunbreaks—those moments of light and warmth in between our persistent rain showers. Our 2019 Sunbreak captures this feeling with 100% dry Chenin Blanc. Aromas of Asian pear, white peach, papaya, grapefruit, honeysuckle and lemon verbena lead to juicy and vibrant flavors of pear and grape skins, peach stone and gravelly minerals. The finish picks up pear and peach liqueurs and hints of papaya and grapefruit peels, followed by a crisp finish. Sunbreak complements salads, fish, chicken, mild cheeses and sunbathing on the patio.
Our Three Forks Rose’ is 100% Pinot Gris, 100% Columbia Valley AVA, 100% Gamache vineyard and 110% delicious and refreshing. Spring and summer sing with juicy strawberry and pink grapefruit aromas and flavors. Only 0.1% residual sugar.
Pair with brie and crackers, summer salads, grilled salmon with dill, grilled chicken and grilled veggies.

Aged with 15% new French oak, Mistral is a unique Rhone or “GSM” blend of 63% Grenache, 32% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre. It has aromas of blueberries,
strawberries, vanilla, lavender and spiced incense. The red and blue fruit flavors are deep and chewy, intermixed with black licorice, dark cocoa, roasted coffee beans and Red Mountain scorched earth and minerals. Grenache is truly the star in this fruity blend. Pairs with goat cheese, lamb skewers, high wind warnings and sideways rain.
This "non-vintage" Mistral is 91% Grenache and 9% Syrah from Red Mountain's Ciel du Cheval vineyard.
It displays a ruby color and rich, smoky aromas of raspberry, strawberry, red currant, crushed roses, mulberry, sweet tobacco, lavender and wafts of spiced incense. The flavors are pleasingly supple, yet substantial, with notes of red licorice, cocoa, sassafras tea and Red Mountain calcareous earth. On the back, the wine intensifies, with sensations of pressed berries, toasted nuts, framboise and crème de cassis liqueurs, and soft pencil lead, followed by a chewy, sweetish soft tannin finish that is lifted by bright fruit acids.
This wine is 90% from the 2015 vintage and 10% from 2014, hence the "NV" or "non-vintage" on the bottle. Federal law limits a designated vintage to 5% of another vintage.
Pairs with goat cheese, lamb skewers, high wind warnings and sideways rain.

Storm Front displays a deep ruby color and aromas of raspberries, cherries, plums, red currants, roses, mint, tobacco, sage and white pepper. On the palate, the flavors are thick and direct, with a Convergence of cocoa, licorice, and roasted coffee beans. The back picks up macerated berries and roasted nuts, followed by a ripe, chewy moderate tannin and acid finish. Pairs well with roasted chicken and potatoes, rainy evenings and movie nights. 55% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Cabernet Franc
The 2016 vintage of Squall Line is our first wine using Horse Heaven Hills grapes. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from three vineyards: Phinny Hill (96%) and Coyote Canyon (2%)--both Horse Heaven Hills--and Gamache (2%) in Columbia Valley.
Deep ruby colored, this possesses classic varietal aromas of blackberry, cherry, plum, crushed black roses, tobacco, cedar, rosemary and wood smoke. The flavors, as well, are direct and true to variety, with dark fruits that are intermixed with licorice, dark chocolate, French roast and Horse Heaven scorched earth. The penetration continues on the back with roasted berries and nuts, mocha and pulverized charcoal, followed by a sweet-dry tannin finish.
Pairs well with roasted or grilled meats, good friends and stormy nights.
This is a fruity, aromatic Cabernet Franc from Dineen Vineyard in the Yakima Valley. Aromas of strawberry and raspberry fruit roll-up, leather, graphite and roasted bell pepper. Its flavors of cherry, blackberry and vanilla converge with sage and smoke into a
smooth mouthfeel and juicy finish. Pairs well with burgers, turkey, tomato dishes, and drenching rain.
Virga is our rich, full bodied, and slightly spicy homage to the great wines of the Southern Rhone Valley in France. Aromas of black cherry, licorice, orange zest, white pepper, vanilla, and cedar converge with flavors of blackberry, black cherry, and roasted coffee with a backbone of baking spices, smoke and wet rock, and a juicy long-lasting finish.
