While most famously known as the “M” in GSM blends (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre), we have come to love this as a single varietal. Called Manastrell in central Spain, and Mataro in California, this varietal is finding a successful home in Washington. The grapes we harvest produce a medium-bodied red wine with balanced tannins and acidity, Aromas include strawberry, pepper, and violet. Flavors of concord grape, red plum, fennel, and thyme, abound, but we also find some slightly savory notes. This wine begs for classic barbeque such as smoked ribs or pulled pork shoulder. Lamb, rabbit, and wild game are also a perfect compliment, and don’t be afraid to pair this with richly herbed or spiced sauces.
