Italian in heritage, the name means “little sweet one”, but don’t let that fool you. This term of endearment simply refers to the lower acidity of the wine in comparison to other Piedmont area varietals. This darling and dark-skinned grape produces a fruit-forward wine with a gorgeous ruby color. It is medium-bodied, and slightly tart with plenty of tannins. A myriad of flavors can be found, including plum, raspberry, black currant, violet, black pepper, vanilla, and a hint of rosemary & bay leaf. Pair this wine with vegetable dishes, roasted meats, pizza, tomato or cream-based plates of pasta, a simple charcuterie, or even a grilled steak.
