Review by Mark Squires for Robert Parker Wine Advocate.
Dec 2021, Week 1. The Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Merlot Reserve was aged for 18 months in 60% new French oak and comes in at 13.96% alcohol. It is frankly hard to say whether the key differences between this and the 2017 also reviewed occur because of the extra years in bottle the 2017 had or because of a different vintage style, or both. I lean to both. This is obviously more youthful and less ready to drink. In fact, it's a couple of years from ready, I think, as the tannins are in control. They aren't too hard and this won't require long cellaring, but giving it a year or two would certainly be a great idea. This seems a bit fresher as well as a bit more vibrant, though, and right now it seems to handle the wood better despite having a little more new-wood impact. Overall, these are both gorgeous, but they are at different stages of life. Drink the 2017 now and come back to this in 2024. If I had to pick, I'd bet on this being the winner in a side-by-side comparison in 2026, but it's gonna be close and that remains to be seen."
