Lot 1988 is a tribute to the year 1988, when a mutation of the Tempranillo grape was discovered on a single vine in Rioja. This variation resulted in the grapes losing their signature red color. The University of La Rioja studied the mutation and developed what is now known as White Tempranillo. Jesus, a co-founder of El Centimo Real, and his family planted one of the first vineyards of Tempranillo Blanco in Rioja Alta.
