The third vintage of exploring Pinot Gris as a ‘red-ish’ wine with a nod to Northern Italy’s Ramato style. Zephyr Farms is farmed organically and with regenera- tive methods. The 30+ y/o PG vines are perched high above the Columbia River Gorge at 1100 ft elevation, surrounded by an old apple and pear orchard with stunning views of Mt. Hood in the distance. One and half tons of fruit was carefully harvested with friends on 10/13/22 and twenty percent of the grape clusters were left intact at the bottom of the fermenter. The juice was pumped over daily during fermentation to encourage fruity characteristics rather than extracting too much skin-tannin through agitation. The juice was slowly pressed off the skins after 6 days and finished primary ferment in tank. Over the course of the winter malolactic fermentation completed and the wine was racked twice and received a small dose of S02 before bottling on 6/15/23. (Serve lightly chilled) NOSE/Flavors: Spirited aromas of bittersweet red aperitivo-soaked rainier cherries brushing up against a garden of tomato leaves and hibiscus flowers. PALATE: Bright, tart red fruit compote with the thinnest, wispy layer of spiced crêpe along with the elevated sensation of gently tannic rooibos tea... and color- ful hot air balloons drifting away from a sunrise.
