A mild winter and spring prompted early bud break in California, making 2014 one of the earliest harvests on record. At the same time, a moderate September allowed for even ripening. The finished wines from this vintage are marked by fresh fruit and bright acidities. Given the mild temperatures, our Pinot noir came in with lower sugar than usual. To boost up the body, we blended in a bit of our riper Dolcetto. We chose to age the wine in almost half new French oak barrels for hints of vanilla and added structure.
