This Reserve Merlot has a beautiful deep garnet color and opens with intense and complex aromatics. Notes of blackcurrant, plum, and black cherry fill your nose
and entice your palate. A touch of Cabernet Sauvignon from Bates Ranch has been blended in to add complexity to the aromatic profile, and also adds richness and softness to the palate. The tannins on this powerful Merlot are full but soft. The finish is long, carried though by a lasting acidity one expects from our cool-climate Santa Cruz Mountains Merlot. Pairing suggestions include lamb chops, sharp cheeses, lasagna, and dark chocolate.

A true soulmate is a mirror, the person who shows you, everything about you, the one who makes life come to life.
This is a full-bodied, rich and bold Syrah with deep blackberry on the palate balanced by pepper, black olive, orange peel and smoky charcuterie. The big tannins are velvety and balanced by the rich fruit. Very yummy! It will bottle age beautifully. The color is a beautiful deep garnet. It enjoys our signature silky mouthfeel, and the balanced acidity and minerality from our high elevation (at 2600') Santa Cruz Mountains vineyard.
2010 was a great year for this wonderful Bordeaux style blend, and this special bottling captures the best of all its component parts to create a beautiful wine. Opulent blackberry fruit with overtones of cassis are a dominant feature, while the well balanced palate finishes with cedar and a wisp of vanilla.
"The cooler climate of this vineyard presents dynamic aromas of peppercorn, bay leaf and charcoal alongside fresh plum and violet on the nose of this bottling. The high-acid palate falls in line accordingly, offering peppery spices against the tightly woven black-raspberry core." - Wine Enthusiast 95 points
2017 was a beautiful vintage for our estate Syrah vineyard. We saw excellent color and flavor development at lower sugar levels yielding a modest 13.8% alcohol in the final wine. Yields and quality were excellent. We have been steadily increasing the quantity of whole clusters used with this wine as we find that it can amplify mouthfeel and savory qualities in the finished wine. We also included a small amount of Viognier in some of the fermentations which can add additional complexity and accentuate the floral qualities that exist with our Syrah. The grapes were fermented 46% whole cluster and aged 11 months in neutral French Oak barrels before being bottled unfiltered and unfined.
The fruit for this blend came from two of our favorite vineyards we source grapes from, Lago Lomita and Ormsby Trail. Both high altitude vineyards and neighbors. Cabernet Sauvignon is the primary in this year’s blend at 65% followed up by 15% Sangiovese, 10% Cab Franc and 10% Zinfandel. Every year has a different mix. This year’s result is a Big Boy Wine. Deep, deep purple in color, the glass is bursting with red and black plum, cherry, a hint of dark chocolate dashed with white and black pepper, with a finish to please any discerning palate. A must as the weather cools.
