A true representation of Finger Lakes terroir and it's growing potential, this extremely small production (single barrel) Merlot was harvested off of the eastern slopes of Seneca Lake and then processed in the remote village of Arkport, on the westward most entrance to the Finger Lakes. Utilizing a minimal intrusion philosophy, this wine was indigenously fermented to capture the local microflora and put through an extended maceration at naturally cool temperatures provided by the New York autumn weather. Pressed off into neutral French Oak and aged for 21 months, then hand-bottled (unfiltered), hand-waxed, and hand-labelled. The bottle features original artwork and poetry from owner/winemaker J. M. Recktenwald. Described as a one-of-a-kind experience, "Society" displays a deep color, a complex aroma of dark chocolate, orange zest, dried cranberry and pistachio, a beautifully soft tannin structure with expected Finger Lakes acidity, and finishes soft and textural.
