Winemaker, Phil Warren is an explorer by nature and he's always looking for the next project to push the envelope and test his skills. When he acquired an old maker's make whiskey barrel, he did what any curious winemaker would do - he filled it with his favorite wine and buried it underground! That was the end of the 2016 harvest season. The winter of 2020 marked the first time for this unique wine to rise up from the ashes, so Phil set to work digging up the barrel and The Phoenix was born. With only 33 cases produced, The Phoenix was the clear choice to be our first VIP club exclusive release. This rustic elegant wine opens up from the glass with notes of caramel and wood smoke reminiscent of your favorite whiskey, and greets your palate with the lush profile of tart cherry, peppercorn, and earthy minerality that Carmenere is known for.
