Our 2018 Alamo Creek Ranch Sauvignon Blanc is from the same vineyard as the sold-out 2017, but it’s a little more intentional. As in, we had time to prepare for
this production (as opposed to getting a call that some just-picked grapes were sitting in bins in the vineyard if we wanted them, the orphans of a winemaker
with an inflated sense of the size of his truck – note to winemaker: size does matter).
Intentional in that we got to choose the pick date to optimize what we knew was great fruit. We got to consider the steel vs. oak conundrum, and, following what’s worked well for our Chardonnay, decided to age 75% in stainless drums to preserve the beautiful fruit and 25% in one-year old French oak to lend the wine weight, body, and an additional layer of yumminess.
