Despite very challenging late-season rains, we made excellent progress in our bio-intensive farming in 2018. We used biological materials except for one instance during the growing season. Our bio vineyard produced the healthiest and ripest Riesling we used in 2018. This wine represents a new expression of Riesling that we hope you enjoy. Limited production– 56 cases produced. Tasting notes Pale gold with aromas of dried peach, melon and orange; plus hints of nutmeg and beeswax. Dry with ample body and a plush roundness. Fruity flavors persist but stony and earthy flavors linger on the long finish. Production notes Harvest notes: Our lakeside vineyard has low-yielding vines planted on shallow soil next to Seneca Lake. This block began a transition to bio-intensive farming methods in 2016. 2018 was our most successful year to date, requiring only one non-biological treatment to yield a healthy crop. Riesling was hand-picked October 14, 2018. It exhibited small berries and thick skins. Winemaker notes: The juice was cold-soaked on the skins for twelve hours, then pressed and transferred to neutral oak barrels for fermentation and brief aging. Bottled in January 2019.
