The Marquette grape, a cold-hardy hybrid and a relative of Pinot Noir, is grown on all four of our vineyard sites. Marquette is the signature red wine for Vermont and a wonderful expression of our terroir.
The 2021 vintage, aged in neutral oak barrels for 8 months, has bursts of ripe red berries with undertones of vanilla on the nose.
The wine is robust and rich with notes of black cherries and baking spices, plus a smooth, lingering finish.
Pairing suggestions: alpine cheeses, rustic tomato sauces, dinner with your best friends.
A balanced blend of the Marquette and Petite Pearl grapes grown in our Vermont vineyards, Whimsey Meadow Rosé offers up complex aromas of fresh strawberries, tart cherry, and candied watermelon.
The juicy palate is kept clean and concise by the addition of some our Louise Swenson (a dry white wine), with its mouthwatering acidity. Light sweetness on the mid-palate is followed by a refreshingly crisp, bright finish.
Grapes for this wine were crushed and immediately went to press, then into stainless steel tanks. The deeply colored juice of our grapes lends this dry rosé its beautiful shade of raspberry pink.
Whimsey Meadow Rosé pairs with sweet and spicy BBQ, soft cheeses such as Brie, and summer salads topped with berries.
After many years of making a small amount of hard cider with and for our friends & family, we wanted to share Vermont’s cidermaking tradition with everyone!
In late November 2020, we combined cider from Brown’s Orchard in Castleton, VT with a pear & apple hard cider blend we made earlier in the fall from wild fruit foraged at Shelburne Farms. The combined blend fermented with wild yeasts, and after two months became a dry, still cider.
A tirage of Brown’s Orchard cider we had previously frozen started a second fermentation in bottle, creating natural carbonation and resulting in a dry, hazy, sparkling hard cider.
This sparkling (petillant naturel, aka pet nat) cider is spontaneously fermented, unfined, and unfiltered.
Varieties: 24% Macintosh , 24% Empire, 24% Northern Spy, 24% Spencer and 4% wild apples & pears
Antecedent is a tangy, dry, and refreshing Vermont-grown Riesling from our Meach Cove vineyard. At 22 years old, these are our oldest vines! We are the only Vermont winery making a Riesling from our own vines, this grape being marginal in our cold climate. It makes a very special wine so we keep putting in the extra farming work that it requires!
The 2021 vintage was the ripest ever for these grapes, and the resulting wine is very aromatic with notes of grapefruit, lime and orange peel. Antecedent rested for 7 months in neutral oak, giving it a touch of tannin.
Substrata is a blend of our Louise Swenson & Itasca grapes that are destemmed, pressed, and then spontaneously fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels. Substrata is smooth, but bright and dry - not overly oaky.
The nose of toasted coconut and honeydew melon leads to a palate of fresh pineapple, with a lengthy finish.
Made from 100% La Crescent grapes grown sustainably in our Vermont vineyards, our skin contact “orange” wine is delicate yet intense. It’s full of apricot, peach and citrus aromas and flavors, with a balanced tartness on the finish. Tectonic is a wild & magical creature!
Following destemming and a gentle crushing, the grapes for this wine went into a stainless steel tank to ferment. Pressing was performed after a forty-two day maceration on skins. About eighty percent of the wine was sent to neutral oak to age sur lie with weekly battonage for three and a half months and the other fifth was aged in stainless steel. After seven months, the lots were blended and allowed to come together prior to bottling.
The aroma is complex and layered, with notes of apricot, peach, raisin, white pepper, tea, rose water, and floral attributes; you could keep your nose in this all-day. This vintage is medium-bodied and has power, yet is balanced.
On the palate, the tannins and acidity are integrated, with a tartness and texture reminiscent of tea and thick-skinned tropical fruits; you may be confused at first, but you’ll keep coming back.
Showcasing the difference that wild yeast fermentation can make, this wine is crafted from Marquette grapes that we grow on our four Vermont vineyard sites and aged in neutral oak for 8 months. On the nose, this medium-bodied dry red welcomes you with tons of cherry, plum, and fresh rosemary. Notes of pomegranate and black raspberry are followed by a long, balanced finish.
The newest addition to our Iapetus lineup, Terrane is a wine we're really excited to share with you.
The nose is all deep black currant and smoky leather, with a woodsy white pepper edge. Acidity and body are medium... fuzzy but bright and attention-getting. On the palate, Terrane is an overflowing bowl full of berries; blue, red, black, purple, plum! The finish is lengthy, elegant, and warmly tannic.
82% Petite Pearl, 14% Marquette, 3% Petite Pearl rosé, 2% piquette
2020 was a great year for our Petite Pearl vines on the slopes of Mt. Philo. On October 4th, we harvested nearly 6 tons of fruit at 25° Brix.
81% of the clusters were gently destemmed, leaving mostly whole berries, and 19% were kept as whole clusters. Primary fermentation occurred spontaneously, and malolactic fermentation was induced.
In mid-October, we blended in Marquette, Petite Pearl rosé and a bit of piquette to lighten things up. After a 24-day maceration with regular punchdowns and pump overs, the wine was pressed off and then racked into neutral oak. The wine rested in barrel for 10 months, with weekly battonage for the first three months.
This refreshing, dry white is a blend of our Louise Swenson, Itasca and Prairie Star grapes.
The 2021 vintage of this wine presents with light citrus and floral aromas. On the palate, Louise pops with lemon and fresh pear, complimenting its dry, bright style. It finishes neatly, with a clean acidity and minerality derived from our soils.
Louise pairs well with goat cheeses and fresh seafood.
Marquette Reserve is the crème de la crème- our “premier cru” level wine. Just four barrels of our 2020 Marquette vintage were selected to age sur-lie for 18 months. The extra time in barrel amplifies the mellow fruit characteristics, softens the tannins, and provides a richer mouthfeel and longer finish. This vintage is full of plum, black cherry, pepper, and a light herbal quality.
Pairing suggestions: cave-aged chèvre, grilled steak, your favorite book and a leather armchair.
Our lightest pet nat, Figure 1 is subtle and delicate with hints of citrus, pineapple, and fresh dough. The body is striking and lean, with suppleness and mouth-filling fizz; very beach-ready. It tastes of fresh-squeezed grapefruit and lemon flesh with a touch of pith and focused acidity; fire the laser!
92% L’Acadie Blanc, 8% La Crescent
Just 39 cases made!
This wine was produced using the petillant naturel method. The fruit was destemmed, gently crushed, and pressed into a stainless steel tank to ferment until it dropped to 1.4° Brix. It was then bottled and allowed to finish fermentation over the course of two months. The wine was then naturally cold-stabilized by placing the bottles outside in the chill of Vermont’s winter, and riddled by hand in January 2022. It spent three months on lees before being disgorged by hand with no dosage.
Figure 2 is the perfect party wine. It has all the amazing citrus and stone fruit aromas of our La Crescent grapes, just dancing on bubbles. It's light and refreshing, yet with a weight and hint of sweetness that excites the palate. Figure 2 has bright, thirst-quenching acidity with notes of peach, pear and lemon zest; it's like Champagne with zero pretension.
98% La Crescent, 2% piquette
This wine was produced using the petillant naturel method. The fruit was destemmed, gently crushed, and pressed into a stainless steel tank to ferment until it dropped to 1.2° Brix. It was then bottled under crown cap and allowed to finish fermentation over the course of two months. The wine was then naturally cold-stabilized by placing the bottles outside in the chill of Vermont’s winter, and riddled by hand in January 2022. It spent three months on lees before being disgorged by hand with no dosage.
Tributary is a Piquette.
Piquette is a time-honored, centuries-old beverage traditionally enjoyed by farmhands and vineyard workers. Made by adding water to grape pomace, piquette is lower-alcohol and thirst-quenching.
On the nose, Tributary is incredibly juicy and floral, abounding with rose petals and macerated strawberries, underpinned by an earthy note of warm sun on stones. The body is light, bright, and 100% beach-ready.
The first wine ever released by our longtime winegrower CJ Buzzy! This blend of Prairie Star and Louise Swenson grapes has aromas of wild summer grasses and white violets. Medium-bodied, with a smooth texture and long finish.
