The real reason blackbirds sing at night.
Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of Merle, the french name for a blackbird; referencing the color of the grape. Dark red fruits, soft tannins and freshness are all identifying notes found in Merlot; something definitely worth singing about.
Just today, a guest said to me “I don't like Merlot, but your Merlot is good”; and this happens a lot! My explanation is that “they just learned that they do not enjoy bad Merlot’. Often Merlot is manipulated to try and make it into something it's not. When Merlot is left to naturally express itself, it can sing.
