Pinot Noir
CA - Santa Cruz County - Ben Lomond Mountain
DESCRIPTION: Succulent black cherry, crushed flowers, mint, and star anise add to a decidedly exotic, perfumed personality. This wine has considerable whole cluster influence that adds layers of nuance, especially as the wine opens up with air.
VINEYARD: Planted in 2008, Coast Grade Vineyard sits at an elevation of 1350 feet right along the fog line, roughly three miles from the Pacific Ocean. These attributes help to ensure that the growing season is temperate and the grapes ripen slowly. An extended growing season leads to berries with greater intensity and allows for more terroir to be absorbed into the fruit prior to harvest. The underlying limestone in this vineyard imparts an incredible minerality to the wine. This vineyard is entirely Pinot Noir, broken into four clonal blocks: Pommard, 828, 667 and 115.
PRODUCTION: 160 cases | AGING: 11 months in French Barrels, 20% new oak, 30% stem retention and co-fermentation | ALCOHOL: 13.0% ABV
