SPQR is the abbreviation of Senates Populous Que Romanus which translates from the Latin as the Senate and the People of Rome.
The weather in 2018 was so excessively rainy and cloudy that our Sangiovese did not achieve the desired ripeness that we usually achieve. As such we chose to increase our blending components of Montepulciano and Petit Verdot to over 25%. The resulting blend is delicious as the nose begins with a blast of rich, dark berry fruit then subtly followed by notes of dried cherries and cranberries. On the palate, resulting in a long, lingering finish. Initially, the wine shows the classic chalky tannin structure of rustic Sangiovese, which will compliment food nicely, and mellows with time to breathe.
