The Raffaldini 2019 Sangiovese Classico possesses the typical dry, earthy aromas with medium tannins and bountiful acids. On the palate, red fruits linger, and recently a well-known wine sommelier compared this wine to an old-world Chianti from the Greve region in Tuscany. I think this wine is a gem and will draw in many people who crave an approachable red with structure and finesse.
This Sangiovese is a classic red, garnet color. Beautiful and bright, lush red fruit comes out of the glass in the form of bing cherries and cranberries. Followed by a hint of earth, red currant and rhubarb. Sangiovese produces a lovely palate that is hallmarked by slightly chalky tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish. The wine is delicious with a balance that is rarely seen in North Carolina wines.
