Girasole, which translates from the Italian as Sunflower, is a dry rose made with Montepulciano using the centuries-old method of pulling free run juice from sun-drenched grapes after a brief period of skin contact. Sunflowers are planted ubiquitously throughout the Central Italian region of Abruzzo that Montepulciano grape calls home. Girasole reveals layers of complex aroma loaded with fresh, crushed raspberries, strawberries, black cherry candy, and dry, almost dusty minerality. On the palate, elegant raspberry and strawberry fruit flavors balance acidity and medium-bodied, clean dry finish. Girasole is fantastic with a traditional Italian farmer's lunch of hard cheese such as pecorino romano, fresh vegetables, red fruits and tomato ragu on crusty bread. For a heartier option, we suggest asparagus-cheese panini with prosciutto.
