First of it's kind, Desaria is a Vermentino-based white wine made using red wine techniques of extended skin contact and barrel fermentation. It is further "fattened up" as some of the grapes undergo the Appassimento drying process. This creates a full-bodied white wine with immense structure, complexity and long lasting finish. The wine-making style of "making a white as a red" was a common in the Etruscan civilization, the forerunner of the Roman Empire.
The nose files out of the glass with burst of melon followed by pear, lemon and hints of lemon-grass. This wine has a wonderful viscosity upon entry to the palate, full-bodied yet with well-balanced acidity to support the lush mouthfeel leading to a long, lingering finish. Drank now or reserve for 3-5 years.
