Blaufränkisch, a traditional Austrian red variety that grows very well in our region, is a consistently interesting wine. This latest vintage expresses aromas of cranberries and dried flowers with medium-full body and soft, velvety tannins. Cherry, black plum, and tobacco leaf aromatics harmonizing with dark chocolate and vanilla flavors are also characteristic in this variety. Aged 22 months in Hungarian and French oak barrels adding a layer of spicy oakiness to the finish. This light to medium-bodied, dry red rounds out a nice, hearty stew or pasta with a tomato or vinegar-based sauce. This beautifully ruby colored wine also makes a very nice base for sangria.
