Giuseppe (Joseph) Rubertino was the maternal grandfather of Nella Terra’s founder, Gerry Beemiller. In 1910, as a young man, Joseph voyaged from struggling Italy arriving in the U.S. with nothing except the clothes on his back and the knowledge of making homemade wine. With zero English vocabulary, the only job he could get was digging graves; he used to joke that the dirt in his fingernails made his homemade wine more compelling. Joseph Rubertino is the inspiration for our Italian name, Nella Terra, which translates to "Into The Earth."
