Petite Sirah is predominantly planted in California where it does well. The Petite Sirah grape creates a rich red wine and is anything but petite; they tend to be robust, full-bodied, and, well, purple. Typical flavors include plum, raspberry, blackberry, and black pepper. The wine couples nicely with spicy sauces and stronger meats such as game, beef, and lamb. Petite Sirah can be enjoyed young and fresh from the bottle, or aged for a mellower flavor as its high tannin content makes the aging worthwhile.
