The 2017 vintage was plentiful and provided excellent fruit. The Petite Sirah yields were exceptionally high which allowed us to make several different wines. Rhyolite granite is a major component of the vineyards’ soils, and we were able to highlight the volcanic grown grapes in this bottling. Because of the intensity of the fruit, we aged this wine in American oak from northern climates to provide a touch of toast while allowing the soil and fruit to shine through. It offers blueberry and blackberry fruit on the palate and firm but very soft tannins.

Notes

This was an exciting wine to develop. Since we used American oak from only Pennsylvania and Minnesota, the terroir really is exhibited while the wine is powerful enough to stand up to hearty foods. It pairs beautifully with southern Italian cuisine and spicy, full-bodied dishes.
