Insieme Wines 2018 Petit Syrah was aged for 24 months in mostly neutral French oak barrels to preserve its varietal qualities.  This wine was deliberately managed in mostly neutral oak to showcase its natural color, tannins and structure without the high impact of oak aromas and oak tannin.  This wine is unfined and unfiltered to preserve maximum phenolic composition.  It has a dark inky color with a purple hue.  It is deep and fairly concentrated.  The bouquet is perfumed but still closed and needs time to breathe.  It opens with aromas of raspberry and plum layered with hints of dark chocolate.  The mouthfeel is dry, medium plus viscosity with smooth and silky tannins.  The palate opens to layers of spice, dark berry with ample fruit unmasked by oak.  With a little time, it opens to a touch more spice, black pepper, tobacco leaf and dark chocolate.  The very light regimen of oak allows the fruit to carry on with a fairly long finish structured by this naturally tannic varietal that finishes with hints earth and plum.
