Dora & Elsie, the great aunts of veteran winemaker Nick Goldschmidt, always brought spirited conversation to the dinner table and lively musical performances thereafter, making for many special evenings at the Goldschmidt residence.
In their honor: “Every time I enjoy a glass from this vineyard I will remember the history they brought to my family and the wonderful music that lasted well into the night.” In this new series Nick captures the bright and lively personalities of both aunts.
Nick chose the Alexander Valley, an area renowned for growing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in Northern California. The vineyard is tucked away on a secluded road and consists of just 11 acres. Nick has farmed this site for nearly thirty years and previously use the grapes in very famous reserve wines over the years. The vineyard’s combination of riverbed stone and gravely loam creates ideal drainage, a critical aspect in achieving optimal growing conditions. The gentle morning sunshine and the site’s south-east exposure nurture the low vigor Cabernet Sauvignon vines until they reach full ripeness. Great flavors and depth of character consistently please, vintage after vintage!
Beautifully focused red cherry, raspberry, and black currant aromas. Loaded with juicy raspberry, espresso, and plum flavors. What sets this wine apart is its elegance--quite remarkable at this pricepoint. The French oak is well-integrated and the soft and supple tannins are in perfect balance with the generous fruit. Shows a touch of cinnamon spice in the long finish.
