The Grapes: Counoise, Carignane and Cinsaut are the grape varieties that make up this blend. 50% carignane, 27% cinsaut, 23% counoise.
The Vineyards: Carignane hails from Estate Gannon Vineyard. This grape loves the Clay and sand soil here. Cinsaut from Red bench vineyard in the center of Dry Creek valley. Dry farmed old head pruned vines. Counoise is from Frick's Estate Owl Hill Vineyard, on the southeast-facing hillsides near the winery. This tiny vineyard grows in rock, gravel and clay from decomposed Dry Creek Conglomerate soil. In this soil the vines have very low vigor.
The Wine: Frick's original unique blend of three obscure red Rhone grape varieties that start with the letter “C”. These three grapes come together beautifully to create a complex delicious wine. Aged 23 months in small neutral oak barrels. Unfined/ unfiltered.
