Although grapes cannot ripen west of the coastal mountains, we were fortunate to find inland vineyards with grapes that have consistently allowed us to make award winning wines. At harvest we brought the mature 2022 wine grapes from Freed Vineyard, located on the alluvial banks of the South Umpqua River, to our ocean front winery. We then allowed the native yeasts, present on all wine grapes, to ferment them in our daily salt-air mists. When ready, we gently pressed the fermented grapes and placed the young wine into oak barrels where it aged for an additional two years.

The unique flavor of this wine is an unexpected gift from nature. In 2018, the state of Oregon experienced fires not seen in 100 years. This bottle of wine was crafted from a blend of Petite Syrah and Cabernet Franc grapes that were grown near a fire ravaged are of the Rogue Valley near the Quail Run Vineyards. The smoky conditions that were prevalent during growing season produced these most unusual grapes and, as a result, enabled us to create this extraordinary wine.
