2023 VA Governors Cup Silver. Youthful wine. Whole cluster press creates the vibrant hue. Balanced tart acidity with modest tannins that give moderate complexity and nice concentration. Fruit forward with fresh red fruits. Black cherry, strawberry, plums and some spicy, gamey notes. Medium finish. Neutral French oak barrels for texture. 100% Chambourcin. 100% estate grown. 11.5% alc.
Notes
The 2021 growing season in Virginia was notably regionally specific. At Chisholm Vineyards we saw few frost events and while experiencing some early season rain, come bloom-time, the vineyard was dry allowing for good fruit set. Throughout the season we saw warm daytime temperatures, encouraging well-ripened fruit. While 2021 did experience late season rains, these storms were accompanied by well-timed drying periods.
