On Seneca Lake's eastern shore, in 2013, Bloomer Creek purchased a vineyard that had been abandoned for over 30 years. This high rocky hillside was planted to eight acres of vines; Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The new vineyard was named Barrow – Old Norse for “high rocky hill and burial mound.” Our new label for this bottling features the artwork of artist//vigneronne Debra Bermingham. Vinified with extended skin contact and spontaneously fermented in stainless steel, this 2020 Barrow Riesling showcases fresh-cut stone fruits, apricot, and lemon with a classically styled linear minerality. Unfined and unfiltered, with minimal S02 only at bottling. "Hazy light yellow in color. Lovely tangerine and melon aromas, along with white pepper and spring herbs. Wonderfully bright and juicy on the palate of Meyer lemon, ripe melon, and grapefruit pith. An intriguing, attractive note of leather lingers on the incredibly long, earthy finish. Complex, and boldly pushes the limits of what Riesling can be." 93 Points, Vinous (2015 vintage)
