BLACK CURRANT MEAD BLACK is an English and Welsh semi-sweet melomel seasoned with black currants since the time of the druids. Black currants are a staple of the British Isles and colonies. Imagine drinking this druidic mead at Stonehenge during the solstice on Mid-Summer’s Night, “under a violet moon!” Pairs with fish, rabbit and other wylde game, pheasant, duck, and other poultry, lamb, pork, beef, cheese, and good company. Mead is honey wine, the most ancient of drynks, common to all cultures of the Olde World. Such culture stretched from India in the East to the British Isles in the West. Today, it is our inheritance from the Ancient Greeks and Romans, the stuff driving legends: Viking battles, Beowulf’s Quest, Briseis’ Romance, and Royal Courts; the very Nectar of the gods.
