Our Assistant Winemaker Jessica hails from another region well know for viticulture: Salinas Valley. Her family has lived in the region for generations and when a family connection to Riesling came up, she talked John into giving it a try. La Estancia Vineyard is owned and operated by the Harkins family in the Historic Santa Lucia Highlands AVA just south of Salinas, CA. It was planted in 1973 by James Harkins, which happens to be the year his granddaughter, and current vineyard manager, Erin was born. Starting with Chualar loam, the alluvial, porous, granite-and sandstone-rich soil provides a nourishing environment for the vines.

We are excited to announce the new John Evan 2019 L’Allechante, 100% Viognier, Ripken Vineyards, Lodi.

Just the third-ever John Evan white, the 2019 L’Allechante Viognier shows its original Rhône roots with great acid and minerality. It reveals its California upbringing with ripe pear; apricot; and a big, juicy mouthfeel.

Our 2016 Sangiovese comes from Richard Ripken's brilliantly farmed vineyards in Lodi. This is the same fabled Sangiovese vineyard that became John Evan's first major winemaking undertaking during the 1999 harvest. This Sangiovese vintage is light and fruity, more in the Old World style. Medium body, good acid, and juicy mouth-feel make this a versatile food and sipping wine.

This is another one of our red/white co-fermentions! This is 96% Tannat and 4% Riesling.
Why? "Because there was no Riesling Tannat."

Carefully picked by the Davis family, our fifth harvest from this tiny Livermore Vineyard has the intensity you have come to expect from the Davis family given the low yield of small clusters with tiny berries. It has beautiful color, with blackberry, black cherry, cedar and black pepper in the nose. In the mouth find excellent balance, with apple peel, plum, great acidity and some minerality.

This is our Côte Rôtie-style Syrah with lovely floral notes on the nose and great fruit & structure on the palate.

Sexy and feminine on the surface, bold and bad-ass on the inside. Meet Das Risiko. In the nose Das Risiko is svelte and sensual with beautiful rose, violets and raspberry, yet provocative with black tea and orange blossoms. Underneath her magnificent heart: ripe plum and blackberry, with coffee and cocoa. Das Risiko finishes with deep rich tannins and a spy's flair - a smart, racy finish.

Bright cherry and allspice with a hint of violet and vanilla combine into a swirling, evolving display of aromas. On the Palate, The Debonaire enters as a soft, fruit-laden breeze and then broadens to display the formidable structure that defines an ageable Cab.

The nose reveals deep ripe fruit with black plum, cinnamon, cardamom, and vanilla. The once overwhelming tannins that earlier dominated the mid-palate and finish now share the quality of an imposing massive structure softened by age, experienced through the filter of warm dusk colors and contrasting with the feeling of crisp evening Sierra breeze and the hard granite of El Capitan.

40% Syrah, 30% Merlot, 25% Petite Sirah, 5% Malbec

Livermore Valley Vintners' Collective is a group of like minded winemakers who are part of the thriving Livermore Valley Appellation.
They have undertaken, as a side project, a study in styles with an agreed-upon framework of varietals. It is a contemplation on camaraderie and a meditation on what it means to express one's vision, as part of a group.

In the aroma of The Paracelcian find the tria prima of black cherry, cinnamon, and cedar. In the mouth, find medium body with intense flavor.

This is a delightful peach flavored sparkling wine!
