Made from ultra-rare Hermitage-clones grown in the legendary Chalone AVA - a gift to vineyard owner Michael Michaud by the head of a very famous 16th-generation winemaking family from the Hermitage A.O.C. in the Northern Rhone. A gorgeous hue of maleficent blood red ruby; its aromas evoke visions of leather, castle walls, and John Snow (along with boysenberry, tobacco, and a hint of menthol eucalyptus); in the mouth, it greets you with candied cherry, boysenberry jam, grape Jolly Rancher, blueberry, white pepper, and an earthy minerality reflecting the limestone and granite soils of the vineyard, with a soft comfortably numb and lingering finish. Already drinking nicely in its youth, but built to last. Pairs well with lamb shanks, braised elk, wood-grilled burgers, Tiramisu with expresso, and a cigar by the fire pit.
