One of our most beloved wines returns with a twist in 2020. It is still a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, but this time from 3 different vineyards in 3 different counties, bringing it even closer to our Absolution symbol known as the Triskele, or the Three Drinking Horns of Odin. We still utilizing the field blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah from the tiny Sass-A-Peak Vineyard in the Paso Robles AVA that was handpicked by yours truly, my family and a few amazing friends, but the yield in 2020 was so small, that I decided to blend in a couple of our “heavy hitters” – the 2020 Cabernet Franc from Martian Ranch Vineyard in Santa Barbara County and the 2020 Syrah from the Michaud Vineyard. The official breakdown is 48% Martian Ranch, 32% Sass-A-Peak and 20% Michaud – as for the grapes, because part of it is a field blend, there is not 100% certainty, but I estimate it to be 61% Cabernet Franc, 26% Syrah, and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, so for those pining for more Cabernet Franc (we sold out of 3 vintages last year), this is as close as you’ll get until next year when a new 100% Cab Franc will be released. A stunning velvet magenta color leads to aromas of strawberry, coffee, and sweet pipe tobacco notes, followed by blackberry, dark black cheery and cocoa nib in the mouth, with velvety tannins and an earthy twang on the lingering finish. Because giving back has been a huge part of our first years in business, 25% of all proceeds from the sale of Great Odin’s Blend will once again go to some of our favorite charities- stay tuned for the announcement of the first one very shortly!
