This is a very special wine indeed – our first one to receive a “Reserve” designation. Planted in the early 1970s by Paso pioneer Art Norman and his family, these 50+ year-old vines (now part of the Brecon Estate) produce just a tiny bit (less than 1 ton per acre) of some truly amazing fruit, and I am so fortunate to have access to them. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, featuring a gorgeous hue of midnight revenge, aromas of dried black cherries, lilac, leather, and an evening by the campfire; in the mouth, cherry vanilla soda, red currant, caramel, pepper, and evoking a walk through the forest after the rain – the 40 months spent aging in neutral French Oak barrels result in a smooth, long, strong, and luscious mouth-filling finish with velvety tannins. Lovely with smoked meats, ripe cheeses and Mexican chocolate, plus rich mahogany and leather-bound books.
