A hybrid of Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc, the grape retains many of the characteristics of Chardonnay but tends to be lighter and brighter. The 2016 Chardonel is an approachable, easy-drinking wine. Pairs with summer favorites including grilled chicken and smoked pork along with basil pesto and Havarti cheese. Ready to drink now, the Chardonel will mature nicely for the next 2 years.
With its bright, medium straw color, the 2016 build upon the two prior excellent vintages. With surprising body and complexity, this wine exhibits aromas of fruity aromas of honeydew melon and apricot along with notes of toasted almond and linden. Flavors included layers of melon, lemon and dried herb mingle with elements of baked grapefruit and olive. Hints of saffron, spice and lemon zest accent a clean, refreshing finish.
