Borrowing elements from each of the four grapes, this Meritage is highly sophisticated and complex. This intricate blend wine will pair with smoked meats and cheese including brisket, pork loin and smoked gouda.
The aromas are complex with blackberry and walnut characteristics blending with notes of green tea, mint and toasted almond. The palate displays elements of juicy raspberry and strawberry along with hints of white pepper, saffron and smoke.
The Sauvignon Blanc has a vibrant, pale yellow color. Aromas are dominated by tropical characters including melon, lychee and juicy fruit along with lemon and the typical Sauvignon Blanc note of gooseberry. With refreshing acidity, the palate displays layers of grapefruit and gooseberry along with notes of lemon. The finish is clean and lively with grapefruit highlights
Viognier has found a home in Virginia. Known for big floral and tropical aromas this bold white can stand up to foods that may whites cannot. Roasted chicken, chicken curry and shellfish pair beautifully with this wine along with baked brie, gruyere and green olives.
A pale straw wine, the Viognier takes on a bit of intensity from 8 months in new and neutral French oak barrels. With a lovely mouth-filling viscosity, this Viognier shows off attractive aromas of tangerine, saffron and toast along with hints of jasmine, rose and pencil shavings. On the palate the fruit shines through with flavors of mango, papaya and citrus integrate with the suggestion of melon and white pepper. The finish lingers with notes of grapefruit and lager.
Height, altitude, rise and depth are all suitable translations of the Italian “Altezza.” Pair this wine with the hardy cuisine typical of Northern Italy, including mushroom risotto and polenta but also Italian hard cheeses such as pecorino and reggiano.
The Altezza is complex with fragrances cherry and mixed berry jam along with hints cinnamon, anise and cedar. On the weighty palate, the wine shows elements of cherry and cracked pepper along with notes of smoke and dark chocolate. On the finish, the refined tannin lingers with accents of cigar box and black pepper.
The 2020 Vidal Blanc Passito is the follow up to the 2020 Virginia Governor’s Cup winning 2017 Passito. The wine is made by the appassimento process where grapes are partially dried on straw mats or pallets in airy rooms or barns in order to concentrate the grapes' flavors and sweetness prior to vinification. A dessert onto itself, pair this late dessert wine with Crème Brule, nutty cheeses such as Comté and Muenster and assorted dried fruits. Serve chilled.
The Passito displays a beautiful deep gold color and a glass-coating viscosity. The aromas are concentrated with elements of honey and golden raisin with notes of boxwood and butter scotch. The wine is dense on the palate with flavors of raisin and fig along with notes of marmalade, lemon and black pepper. The wine lingers on the finish without being cloying with characters of baking spice, apricot, and green tea. As with quality dessert wines, this Vidal Blanc has a balance of sweetness and natural acidity
Merlot has found a home at 868 Estate. It is the secret sauce in our Meritage and Altezza red and makes a very nice wine on its own. The 2019 Merlot is an intense, well-balanced wine will complement rotisserie chicken, roasted root vegetables, lightly seasoned red meat and flavorful cheeses such as Asiago and Gouda. The Merlot is ready to drink now but will continue to develop elegantly for another two years.
The 2019 Merlot has a deep ruby color and a solid mid-weight body. This artisanal wine exerts intense aromas of cherry, raspberry and cedar with notes of toast and black berry. The palate is bold with a strong tannin structure. Dark fruit flavors such as black berry and currant are evident with elements of saffron, thyme and black tea. With its firm yet subtle tannin structure, the Merlot lingers with hints of pepper, dried fruit and espresso.
This medium gold-colored Chardonnay is an easy drinking crowd pleaser. The aroma is intense with the strong suggestion of honey and apples complimented by notes of toasted almond, hazelnut and pear. The palate features unexpected body and mouth weight with elements of apple, citrus and minerality highlighted by hints of baked apple and acacia. The wine finishes with refreshing elements of saffron and grapefruit.
Aromas of black plum, black cherry, and red currant combine with dusty graphite and black pepper with a subtle thread of vanilla from the high percentage of new French oak. This is a restrained Merlot with nice freshness on the palate showcasing juicy blackberry and subtle raspberry. Finishing with a smooth, silky trail of fine-grained tannins.
The medium straw-colored Chardonnay Steel is a light bodies wine with surprising structure. Aroma are floral and reminiscent of tropical fruit and truffle, highlighted by elements of cut hay and apple. On the palate, the wine displays bright acidity along with apple, melon and truffle accented by note of pear and citrus. The finish is refreshing with lingering hints of lemon zest and saffron.

868 Estate Vineyards’ Canvas White is a wine for good times. This light, fruity white demonstrates surprising complexity. With a clear emerald straw hue, the bouquet exhibits apricot and tangerine notes with hints honey, sweet-tart candy and fresh cut straw. On the palate, elements of baked citrus, orange and grapefruit dominate with a suggestion of spice and tangerine. The finish is clean with notes of candied citrus and pepper.

Flavors including layers of lemon, roasted hazelnut and dried herb mingling with elements of grapefruit and boxwood. Hints of spice and lemon zest accent a clean, refreshing finish.
The 2021 is the seventh Cabernet Franc vintage at 868 Estate and the vines have settled in, producing fine quality and quantity. With a medium ruby color, the 2021 Franc displays enticing aromas of raspberry, vanilla and leather with elements of butterscotch, cherry and walnut. Flavors are black. Blackberry. Black Cherry. Black Pepper. Hints of coffee and seared meat complement the flavors. The 2021 Cab Franc has a mature tannin profile and lingers on the finish with hints of leather, espresso and olive.
