Chambourcin (pronounced Sham-burr-sin) is the state red grape of Kansas. It’s also our most widely planted grape at Grace Hill, which means we like to show it off.

We’ve tried everything with it, from sweet wines to rosés to fortified wines aged in shipping containers, and now comes a Nouveau, aged only 2.5 months from vine to bottle!

This easy drinking red can be enjoyed
chilled or room temperature, and shows off the bright red fruit flavors that make Chambourcin such a fun grape to make wine with!

The further we get in Grace Hill's winery journey, the more experimentation has become a sort of fuel driving us forward. And this wine is no exception, inspired by a medieval style of wine that was trucked around the world in ships, exposing it to extreme heat (and sometimes pirates) and changing the flavor of the wine in the barrel. We don't have any sea ships here in Kansas, so we used the next best thing, a shipping container! This wine spent the heat of the Kansas summer in an even hotter shipping container, imbuing it with flavors we've never been able to achieve before, something we consider a real treasure!

Only one ton of grapes were harvested from these, the oldest, Chambourcin plants the Grace Hill Winery estate maintains. This complex Chambourcin was aged 14 months in a barrel sporting French oak heads with American oak staves. Aromas of vanilla and spice lead into pleasant raspberry and cherry flavors.
