"BEST ROSE" - 2023 CASCADIA WINE COMPETITION

Vintage: 2022
Blend: 87% Syrah,
13% Sangiovese
Vineyard: Arena Valley
Vineyard
Harvest Date: 10/5/22
Harvest Brix: 21.2
Aged: Stainless steel fermented
pH: 3.25 Ta: 6.4 g/L
RS: <0.6g/L (Dry)
ABV: 12.2%
Bottled Date: 2/24/23
Cases Crafted: 296 cases

TASTING NOTES: Lovely & refreshing! Pretty
aromas of rose petals, cherry and honeysuckle
lead the way to flavors of tart cranberry, citrus
zest and pomegranate.

WINEMAKERS NOTES: There are several
approaches to making Rosé. My personal
favorite style, and the style that I strive to
achieve in making ours, is dry, light, and
crisp, much like the famous Provence style
rosés. Many rosés are produced as more
of an afterthought, by bleeding off a little
red wine (aka saignee style). These wines tend to be a bit too dark and astringent as well as a little too high alcohol to be crisp and refreshing. Our rosé is made intentionally all the way from the vineyard. We crop the vines slightly higher to push the ripening window further into the fall, in doing so we preserve a lot of acidity as well as reduce the potential for high alcohol, but we still get a ton of flavor due to the longer ripening. Once in the winery we gently whole cluster press the grapes to limit the amount color and astringency we extract and we ferment cool and long to preserve aromas and flavors. Finally we bottle ASAP to preserve as much freshness as possible.

WINEMAKING NOTES: The grapes were picked in the morning and promptly whole cluster pressed to keep color to a minimum. The juice was settled for 24 hours and racked to a fermentation tank where it was inoculated with yeast. The fermentation was slow and cool lasting 32 days at a temperature of 48-50F. After fermentation the wine was cold stabilized for 1 month, clarified with bentonite clay, filtered, and bottled.

Vintage: 2021

5% Tempranillo
Vineyards: Williamson, Stowe
and Sawtooth Vineyards
Harvest Date: October, 2020
Harvest Brix: Average 24.0
Aged: 16 Months in
American and French oak
pH: 3.70
Ta: 6.2g/L
RS: 0.2%
ABV:13.1%
Bottled Date: 2/1/22
Cases Crafted: 300 cases

TASTING NOTES:
Aromatic layers of dark fruit, baking spices and dark chocolate. In the mouth, bright fruity blackberry, black cherry and nuttiness. Medium-bodied & ample acidity well-balanced with ripe fruit.

PAIRING: Tasty with grilled meats or Italian pastas.

WINEMAKER NOTES: Named after Idaho’s state gemstone, Star Garnet is our house style blend and while the blend changes slightly year to year it is typically modeled after the Bordeaux wines of France. Each year we select lots that will create a blend that is both complex and approachable in its youth. In 2020 we chose a blend of Williamson Vineyard Cab and Malbec as our base and blended in a touch of Sawtooth Vineyard Petit Verdot and Stowe Vineyard Tempranillo to add some structure, texture, and complexity.

WINEMAKING NOTES: Each variety in the blend was harvested separately when ripe. Picks were done early in the morning to allow for cold fruit coming into the winery. The fruit was promptly destemmed and crushed into fermentors where the must was cold soaked for 1-3 days after which they were inoculated with yeast. Fermentation lasted 5-10 days depending on the lot and variety. After fermentation was complete the wine was pressed, racked to barrel and inoculated with malolactic bacteria for secondary fermentation. After 3 months, when the secondary fermentation was finished, the wines were racked again. Just before bottling the wines were racked to a tank where they were blended, and bottled after 16 months of aging.

DOUBLE GOLD WINNER
- CASCADIA 2023 WINE COMPETITION
Vintage: 2021
Blend:100% Malbec
Vineyard: Sawtooth, Klahn
Harvest Date: 9/28/21
Harvest Brix: 24-27
Aged: 15 Months in
American & Frenh oak

TASTING NOTES:
Aromas of marionberry, floral notes and
blueberry. Concentrated flavors of
blackberry pie, dark chocolate & acai berries.

PAIRING: Lasagna or lamb shank with
grilled veggies.

WINEMAKER NOTES: We first started
working with Malbec in the late 90s and
used it simply as a blending grape in the
Star Garnet. In 2004 founder Bill Stowe
decided to try out Malbec as a varietal wine
and it has been one of our top wines every
year since. The original labels were adorned
by the winery dog Aussie, then we decided
to have yearly rotating label that supported
the Idaho Humane Society. Starting with the
2016 vintage our “For the Mountains” Malbec
features the artwork of local artist Rachel Teannalach and a portion of the sales go to support the Idaho Trails Association. We feel Malbec is perfectly suited to the Snake River Valley’s high elevation and dry climate and our goal with this wine is to create a structured and serious Malbec that rides the line between the flamboyance of the new world and the austerity of the old world styles.

WINEMAKING NOTES: The 2021 Malbec followed similar winemaking protocols as both the 2020 and 2018 with one major difference: yields were so low in 2021 that we were forced to blend both vineyard lots during fermentation. The wine was racked into barrel on October 16th and finished Malo-lactic (secondary) fermentation by Nov 1. This wine will be racked into clean barrels around month 4, where it will age until sometime between month 16 and 22 (to be determined later).

Tasting Notes:
This rich & affordable Cab provides aromas of dusty oak, cocoa powder and plum, followed by rich, dark, notes of plum & boysenberry.

Pairing: Smoked meats, grilled vegetables with fresh goat cheese

Vintage: 2020
Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauv., 5% Petit Verdot Vineyard: Sawtooth
Harvest Date: 10.20.20
Harvest Brix: 25.2
Aged: 15 months in American
& French oak barrels
pH: 3.8
Ta: 4.7g/L
RS: <0.2%
ABV: 13.9%
Bottled Date: 3.16.21
Cases Crafted: 375 cases

Winemakers Notes: Cab is King! Our take on Cabernet Sauvignon is to create a wine that, while big, bold, and true to style, is approachable in it’s youth and doesn’t require 10-20 years to mellow down. Luckily this matches with the style of Cabernet that the Snake River Valley seems to produce: ripe fruit with structured but mellowed tannins. While we source Cab from a number of different vineyards within the Snake River Valley AVA, the 2016 is dominated by Sawtooth Vineyard fruit.
Winemaking Notes: The fruit was harvested in the early morning while the temperatures were below 55F and promptly destemmed. After a 3 day cold soak at 50F the must was inoculated with yeast and fermented for 8 days peaking at a temperature of 80F. When fermenta- tion was finished the wine was pressed, inoculated with malolactic bacteria for secondary fermentation and racked into a blend of French and American oak barrels. After 3 months, when the secondary fermentation was finished, the wine was racked again. The wine aged for a total of 15 months.

Blend: 100% Tempranillo

Harvest Date: 10/7/2020
Harvest Brix: Average 25.5
Aged: 22 months in American oak barrels

Ta: 5.8g/L
RS: 0.04g/L (Dry)
ABV:14.1%
Bottled Date: 8/20/2022
Cases Crafted: 164 cases

Winemakers Notes: Tempranillo has quickly become one of our benchmark wines here at Indian Creek Winery. We first started making single barrel batches of the variety in 2008, planted our own in 2014, and have settled in to making about 10 barrels of Tempranillo every vintage. While most years we try to keep our estate Stowe Vineyard Tempranillo as a separate bottling, this vintage we found that a blend of Stowe Vineyard and Sawtooth Vineyard Tempranillo married so well it was too good bottle them separate. Sometimes with blending the sum is greater than the equal of the parts and that is definitely the case here. Stowe Vineyard bring structure, acid, and boldness to the blend, while Sawtooth Vineyard brings ripe fruit, plush tannins, and complexity. Enjoy!

Winemaking Notes: The fruit was picked in the early AM and crushed/destemmed promptly. The must was then cold soaked on the skins for 3 days and inoculated with yeast. Fermentation lasted about 9 days after which the wine was pressed, and racked to 1 neutral and 1 new French oak barrel. The wine was then inoculated with malolactic bacteria for secondary fermentation, racked again after secondary fermentation finished, and aged for a total of 20 months. The wine was bottled in August 2022.

Indian Creek Winery 2008 Tawny Port-style, Snake River Valley •
The late Bill Stowe began showing the ropes to his future winemaker/son-in-law Mike McClure back in 2002, and they shepherded this barrel for a decade starting in 2008. It's a field blend of Portuguese varieties, led by Touriga Naçional and followed by Tinta Cão and Souzao, and they rounded off the residual sugar to 10%. Classic aromas of poached cherries, boysenberry and vanilla include some nuttiness, and there’s spiciness throughout the rich and juicy profile. A bit of grip up front is shaved down beautifully with caramel and a pinch of white pepper on the finish. (20% alc.)

GOLD MEDAL - 2023 CASCADIA WINE COMPETITION
Vintage: 2021

Vineyard: Stowe Vineyard

Harvest Brix: 22.0-24.5
Aged: 10 months in French Oak barrels, 33% new, 22% once used, 45% neutral
pH: 3.45 Ta: 5.9g/L RS: <0.2% ABV: 12.9%
Bottled Date: 8/21/21 Cases Crafted: 266 cases

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of marionberry, floral notes and blueberry. Concentrated flavors of blackberry pie, dark choc & acai berries with silky texture.

WINEMAKER NOTES: Pinot Noir is the wine that put Indian Creek Winery on the map! With very little grape growing history in the Snake River Valley to provide direction, Bill and Mui Stowe planted Pinot Noir at our estate Stowe Vineyard in 1982. The first wines from these vines were produced in 1987 and the 1988 vintage won Best of Show at the San Diego International Wine Competition proving that Pinot Noir was the correct choice for Stowe Vineyard. Today we continue the tradition of creating terrior driven Pinot Noir that is uniquely ours.

WINEMAKING NOTES: 100% Stowe Vineyard fruit from 6 different clones, the fruit was harvested in late September in early mornings. The fruit was then destemmed into different lots and allowed to cold soak for 2 days at a temperature of 50F. Half the lots were then inoculated with yeast, the other half were allowed to ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. After a 7-10 day fermentation with temperatures peaking at 85F the wine was gently pressed to French oak barrels were the wines were then inoculated with malo-lactic bacteria for secondary fermentation. The wines aged in the barrels for 10 months then racked to a blending tank and bottled in August 2021.

VINTAGE: 2021
Estate Stowe Vineyard
ABV 13.2%

Bottle Art: Lori McNee

Pairing: Creamy pasta dishes, smoked
salmon & aged cheese.

Winemakers Notes: Chardonnay is a
winemakers grape. Left on it’s own it
tends to be a bit one dimensional and
less aromatic than some of the other
white wines (think Sauvignon Blanc). This leaves a blank canvas of sorts that allows the winemaker full creative reign to build the wine, this also means Chardonnay can range from super oak and butter bombs, to the stainless, or “naked” versions that are clean and crisp. Our take on Chardonnay is a bit of a middle path. We barrel ferment and age the wine in mostly neutral barrels. This allows for a creamier texture while keeping the oak aromatics as more of a spice to the fruit rather than the dominating character.

Winemaking Notes: 100% Stowe Vineyard Chardonnay. The grapes were picked in the early morning and gently whole cluster pressed off the skins. The juice was then allowed to settle for 12 hours after which it was then racked into a barrels and inoculated with yeast. Fermentation lasted about 10 days with temperatures easing up to 65F. Once fermentation was finished the wine was inoculated with Malo-Lactic bacteria and allowed to undergo secondary fermentation in the barrels. The wine was aged on the lees in a blend of French and American oak barrels for 10 months. The barrels were 2/3rds neutral and 1/3 once filled to give a slight hint of oak but not to overpower the natural tropical character of our Chardonnay. After aging the wine was racked to a tank, filtered and bottled on August 21, 2021
