Maple Moon Sugarbush and Winery
Maple Moon is America's FIRST and ONLY Maple Winery, located near the quaint town of Petoskey, MI. Most of the wines are fermented with maple syrup, not grapes, and all of the wines are finished with maple syrup. The base wine is DRY. However, the wines will range from dry to sweet depending on how much maple syrup is added at the finish. There are usually 10 or more varieties available and two hard ciders on tap.
It all began when Todd and Christi Petersen bought 80 acres just outside of town. God put it on their hearts to teach their four children about resourcefulness, hard work, integrity, gratefulness, generosity and contentment. In 2011, after 2 years of back yard sugaring, they discovered their "sweet spot." They decided to produce Pure Michigan Maple Syrup as a family business.
In 2015, they turned some of their maple syrup into wine, becoming America's First and ONLY Maple Winery. While many wineries combine various ingredients to create something new, it's much rarer to take it a step further with maple syrup. Customers rave that the wines have an exceptionally smooth finish,. The ten wines available vary from dry to sweet. However, the most popular is a port style maple wine with bourbon. They also serve a top notch Maple Ginger Hard cider and a Maple Bourbon Aged Hard Cider. It is an off the beaten path, one of a kind find, if you visit the Petoskey area!
