Mount Nittany Vineyard & Winery is dedicated to crafting exceptional local wines from their mountainside location in the heart of central Pennsylvania.

Winery founder Joe Carroll spent a lot of time on the family farm back in Indiana as a boy. So when he and his wife Betty purchased their 65-acre property on the side of Mt. Nittany in 1983, it was natural for him to return to his farming roots. In 1987, Joe and Betty started planting the now six-acre vineyard. The southern exposure and elevation of the site provide a microclimate conducive to grape growing. The six varieties of grapes grown in our vineyard include Cayuga, Seyval Blanc, Riesling, Muscat Valvin, Itasca, and Vidal Blanc.

Joe had been amateur winemaker for years starting in the 1970s, learning the craft from local aficionados and other winemakers across the state at a time when there were only 30 wineries in the state of PA. Now in commercial production since 1990, the winery produces 15,000 gallons of wine each year and harvests anywhere from 12-15 tons of grapes annually. Their award-winning wines, including fruit wines from locally-sourced cherries, apples, blueberries and raspberries, are sure to please every palate.

In 2016, ownership of the winery was transferred to Betty and Joe's daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Weaver. Winemaker, Scott Hilliker, hired in 2015 from a degree program in viticulture and enology, continues the tradition of making award-winning wines.

Just six miles from State College and Penn State University, Mount Nittany Vineyard & Winery is located above the historic village of Linden Hall. With breathtaking views across Penns Valley to the Tussey Mountain Range, you’ll find the perfect setting for gatherings with family and friends. Bring a picnic, buy a bottle of wine and seat yourself at one of the many picnic tables around the pond or on our covered decks.

Our Vintner’s Loft is a lovely, private room with views of the pond and lower vineyard. The Loft is the site of winery events throughout the years, including food and wine pairing events, wine trail weekends, and our annual Harvest Festival.
